Compound Words: They are created when the modifying adjective is used with
its noun to create a new noun or when adverbs ending in -ly combine with
another word. These are written as two separate words:
• Ex:
real estate, dinner table, living room, newly born, slowly uttered, deeply engraved,
etc.
• Closed
Compound Words: Closed compound words are usually made up of only two words
and written as a single word.
• Ex:
fireman, workshop, notebook, etc.
• Hyphenated
Compound Words: These are the words written with a hyphen.
• Ex: long-term problems, mid-term Examination, one-half, father-in-law, two-fold, thirty-five, etc.
• Use
the box given on page no. 73, make compound words and check in a dictionary to
see whether they exist and how they are written.
