Summary of the Poem New Nepal
New Nepal is a Nepali political
poem written by Siddhicharan Shrestha who was born on May 1912 and died in
1992AD, which is translated into English by Shreedhar Prasad Lohani. The poet was a revolutionary during that time
in writing. He had to stay 18 years in prison because of his writing as well.
However, he was released after 5 years.
The poet asserts that in order to achieve equality and equity and achieve human dignity, all Nepalese people must speak out. He clarifies the pathos, issues, and sentiments of the Nepalese people. He claims that the political system has changed repeatedly and that despite Nepalese people rising up to live their best lives, the rich just get richer and the poor stay the same. Divide, bigotry, corruption, and superstition are all on the rise. So he calls on all Nepalis to get up, wake up, and tell them to leave the harmful social systems in place so that they can transform the country from the old to the new.
