Light My Lucky (BBM I, BBS II)

 Light My Lucky

Lucky Strike has been one of the most well-known cigarette brands since the early 1900s. Because of a 1929 advertisement by the American Tobacco Company, it became the most widely used cigarette brand in the US during the 1930s. This Lucky Strike advertisement uses imagery that depicts prevailing social conventions as well as many other promotional gimmicks to persuade ladies and gents to smoke in public. The eyes are drawn to a huge, strong, white masculine hand that is breaking a metal chain and is wearing a red, blue, and white cuff. American intelligence is written on the red portion of the cuff, while a white star is drawn on the blue portion. "An Ancient Prejudice has been Removed," reads a headline in capital letters printed in a huge, black, bold font. The metal chain seems to be dangling below the headline. Advertisers used as an ethos in the ads had at that time many commercial organizations that helped in promoting business. As a result, it sponsored a beautiful young girl whose body is seductive, who is on the lawn with a scarf around her neck. She has no longer lit the cigarette but has held it in her hand.

Overall, the essay, Light my Lucky, gives us a focal idea that the companies provide ads for their benefits, which do not concern public health as well. They have the motive to earn the money only because we all know the slogan, "Smoking is injurious to our health.: Lastly, companies use celebrities, nationality, culture, language, etc., to manipulate the commoners to promote business.
