The Use of Force by Willams Carlos Williams
Summary
A writer from the United States named William Carlos Williams, who was born in 1883 and passed away in 1963, is the author of the short story "The Use of Force." In this narrative, a doctor's relationship with his patient and his relationship with the patient's parents are shown to be at odds on different levels. However, the conflict between the doctor and the parents is psychological. This scenario demonstrates that using force to further a good cause is morally and legally acceptable.
The narrator is a doctor who stops by the Olson family's home. Her parents called the doctor because no medication was effective. The doctor inquired if the girl had a sore throat from his concern that she might have diphtheria. When Mithalda is asked to open her mouth, the doctor is instantly attacked by the girl's sharp nails. The parents' assurances that he is a kind man who won't harm her infuriate the doctor. Her dad unexpectedly releases her just as the doctor is going to examine her throat. Parents are anxious and concerned that the doctor might hurt their children. The doctor and the patient's parents are the two main parties in this dispute. While the parents oppose the use of force, the doctor employs it out of societal responsibility. Therefore, while loving the innocent child, the doctor despises her parents.
