Corona Says by Vishnu S. Rai(NEB XI)

Corona Says by Vishnu S. Rai(1951)

Poet’s Background: The poet received his education in India, Nepal, and the United Kingdom. After teaching English at TU, he retired as a professor of English Language Education. Rai is a bilingual author who writes both in Nepali and English. Martyrs and Other Stories (English), Realities (English), Nau Dandapari (Nepali), Paheli (Nepali), Sudama, a semi-epic in Nepali, and Jeevan are some of the poet's other works (a collection of poetry in Nepali), Corona claims that the current global crisis was the subject of the poem's composition. Corona is a subtle humorous look at human conduct and attitude and its negative impact on human existence. Covid 19 is seen as the result of how man has interacted with nature.

Things to know about the Poem: The poem "Corona Says," which contains seven stanzas and was released in 2077 BS, is the subject. It is delivered to us, the readers, in the persona of the coronavirus; it discusses the current global economic crisis; the catastrophic effects of the corona on human life; a satire on so-called modern people and their attitude; a warning to stop blaming others for the economic crisis as we are the cause of it; the effects of the superior feeling in humans; and a call to action for all people to stop activities that harm nature and to think about and care for all species of organism

My Contemplation: A simple poem with a profound message about how the coronavirus is a natural byproduct; it is wise to create this poem to warn about the implications of human carelessness and to make everyone aware of COVID-19's current state. Reminding us to take the pandemic's warning seriously, the poem would have been improved with an appropriate amount of lines in each stanza and a good rhyme scheme.

Summary: The speaker, Corona, rejects responsibility, arguing that mankind is to blame for such extensive destruction rather than themselves as with earlier pandemics. The cause of Corona is human behavior and behaviors that are not in nature's best interests; in this case, the speaker uses the name Corona, which needs no introduction. This poem articulates the speaker's opinion on the entire tragedy. Humans believe they are the planet's monarchs and rulers and that they have complete control over all of creation. They also think that other elements of nature are their servants, and that nature has reverted to its previous state with a clear sky and a clean atmosphere. The corona period has this advantage. Without a doubt, if we do not change our careless attitudes and actions toward the environment, Corona will return one day and more pandemics of its kind will invade Earth. In addition, such actions would eventually send us back to the Paleolithic era, when humans had to hunt for food in caves.

Interpretation of the Poem: COVID's purpose is to give nature some much-needed rest rather than to instill terror in our hearts. The world is currently recovering and taking a break since it has had enough of crying and shedding skin in the form of melting mountains and changes in ozone. The earth belongs to all living things, not only to humans; in this illustration, the Corona Virus stands for all living things. Throughout the pandemic, we had the opportunity to pause and reconsider our tasks.
