Order of Adjectives in a sentence

The adjectives are often in a certain order when more than one adjective precedes a noun. Look at these instances below:

  1. A house
  2. A large house (size)
  3. A large white house(size color)
  4. A large old white house(size age color)
  5. A beautiful large old white house(opinion size age color)
  6. A beautiful large rectangular old white house(opinion size shape age color)

Adjective placement in a sentence

1. Determiners (quantity and number as well): a. an, the, this, that, these, those, my, our, his, her, etc.

3.  Size: big, colossal, enormous,  gigantic,  great, huge, immense, large,

4.  Shape: oval round, thin, flat, triangle, etc.

6. Colour: watery, colorless, red, black, etc.

7. Origin: Nepali, American, northern, oceanic, etc.

8. Material:  woolen, fiber, plastic, golden, wooden, synthetic, etc.

9. Purpose: folding, riding, rolling, tennis, fishing, writing, dancing, swinging, racing, sleeping, etc.

10.  Noun:  any naming word.
